Pennhurst Asylum

The state-funded school and hospital was open from 1908-1987 and housed the mentally and physically handicapped, immigrant, criminals and orphans that could not be housed elsewhere. in 1968 an exposé led to sweeping changes in the way the legal system, medical system and society treats those with special needs.
